Idea Behind
of Program
A simple way to a better world |
Throughout human history, philosophers, poets, politicians,
and thinkers of all description have sought to define,
clarify and promote a set of values which would reliably
guide the lives of human beings through “the thousand
natural shocks that flesh is heir to.” Stubbornly, however,
humanity has clung to conflict, allowing confusion between
bewildering arrays of belief-systems - most of which
preached peace - to lead them into war.
The fundamental flaw in the logic to date is the assumption
that there has to be one truth, one set of values, which all
human beings must subscribe to in a fairly restrictive way,
if the peace so often preached is ever finally to be
practised worldwide.
The key is the achievement of a common consensus: a
universal acceptance of a simple rule-set, which leaves
everyone free to decide on their own values, beliefs and
philosophy, as long as they remain under the umbrella of the
three crucial
Symbiosis
commitments.
For us,
Symbiosis,
NOT Competition, is the key concept of sustainability
theory. Life continues to evolve, or becomes extinct,
because of the success or failure of certain symbiotic
relationships. The quality of human life depends on the
sustainability of
three key
symbioses:
between body and spirit, between people/s, and between
humanity and the increasingly fragile eco-systems which
support us.
Successful symbiosis depends on balancing the needs of both
partners, not overwhelming one with the desires or beliefs
of the other. Values must be free to shift, and individuals
must be free to select those values which seem to them to be
most beneficial at the time they have need of them.
The crucial element for the sustainability of the successful
relationship is RESPECT: accorded by each partner to the
other in equal measure.
Therefore, we need not further trample the minefield of
values, beliefs, morality and ethics, rules, codes and
laws. Instead we need merely to ask that everyone accept
the commitment to
respect the other
partner,
whose needs – at least on occasions – may be quite different
from our own.
Under this rule of respect, no harm should come either to
the body or the mind because the needs or desires of one
have been allowed to overwhelm the needs or desires of the
other. No harm should come to any person because the needs
or desires of one have been allowed to overwhelm or
disregard the needs or desires of the other. No harm should
befall either humanity or the planet because the needs or
desires of one partner have been allowed to overwhelm the
needs or “desires” (metaphorically speaking) of the other.
