The Founder

A simple way to a better world

Jason Liao was born in 1949 in Taiwan and came to Belize in 1989.  Nature lover and philosopher, he came to the conclusion that symbiosis is a more important process than competition in the evolution of life, and that certain symbioses are of key importance to the sustainability of quality of life on earth.

Jason believes that human beings have gone in the wrong direction whenever they have decided to adopt a particular set of values and beliefs and then tried to coerce other people into adopting them as well.  Such behaviour causes resentment, the entrenchment of differing opinions, prejudice and war.

Individuals should be free to develop their own values and beliefs, accepting only the condition that their behavior should in no way damage the three key symbioses defined in this document.

Jason contends that each of us is unique and full of promise, with unlimited possibilities for growth and fulfillment, provided that we know how to sustain these crucial symbiotic relationships.

This conviction has led Jason to formulate "An Educational Constitution for a Better World."   It contains the three core Symbiosis Commitments – the rule set with the power to change the world for the better.

The first commitment makes each individual sustainable and sets him or her on the path of fulfillment; the second and third commitments ensure that no harm comes to other people or the planet as a result of that personal growth

The Eco-Kingdoms program was thus created by Jason to promote the three Symbiosis Commitments as the core of an Educational Program for us all, but perhaps most especially for our younger generation in schools everywhere.

He has spent the last 20 years formulating, refining and simplifying the rationale behind this program.  During those years he developed the Orchid Garden Eco-Village as somewhere where the three “symbiosis” commitments – to self-learning, to respecting the differences between peoples and to the development of eco-sustainable practices - could be applied. He acquired some thousands of acres of land in Belize, which he has determined to preserve for green purposes.

It was his chance encounter with a writer and English specialist in 2008, which led to this current expression of his ideas in that language, and the launching of this program "with comfort and confidence" in the English-speaking world.

One of the highlights for the more active is our tour to Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM for short “Cave of the Stone Sepulcher”) . An Expedition underground to find the Crystal Mayan Maiden, this cave was featured in the National Geographic Explorer film Journey through the Underworld (1993).

You will bounce over some rough road to get to the start, then trek through some steamy jungle for up to an hour, fording the river 3 times (the water may be up to your knees, or even higher) to get to the mouth of the cave.  Then you swim in (there is no other way) and make your way past stalactites and stalagmites to crystallized human remains from Mayan rituals more than a thousand years ago.  This is an awesome trip which is arguably not for the faint-hearted; that is why we run a more sedate option on the same day!  some of your family member may choose to spend time exploring Mayan, Mennonite and Mestizo population centers with their different cultural overtones instead
